Blown-In Attic Insulation
Blown-in attic insulation spreads an even layer over the entire attic floor, around wires and trusses, while a clean existing layer stays in place.
How it works and what it costsThese are the questions Barrhaven homeowners ask most often about attic insulation and air sealing. If yours is not here, call and ask.
Phone and talk it through, or book a visit and see the answer up in your attic.
Air sealing closes every opening in the ceiling where house air can rise into the attic. We use spray foam on wire and pipe holes in the top plates, fire-rated sealant and metal flashing at hot flues, gaskets or covers on pot lights, sealant around fan housings and weatherstripping on the hatch. It all happens before any new layer goes in.
Icicles that form in one spot along the roof, cold drafts from pot lights, a hatch that feels cold around its edges and dark streaks on the insulation all point to leaks. Dark streaks show where air has been filtering through the fibres and leaving dust behind.
Both work well. Blown fiberglass weighs less and will not soak up water, which suits ceilings with older drywall. Cellulose is denser and slows air a little more. We recommend one after seeing the attic and can price both.
Yes. Each unit's attic is separated from its neighbours by a fire wall, and we work only in your section. We seal the gaps where the ceiling meets the shared walls so warm air stays in your home.
Right away. Blown attic insulation goes in from the attic side, and the rooms below are covered and vacuumed before we leave. There is no drying or curing time for loose fill.
We suggest not. Boxes crush the new insulation and lower its R-value. If you need storage space, ask about a raised platform over the insulation before the work starts.
Removed insulation is vacuumed straight into bags in our truck and taken away for disposal. No bags travel through your home.
Someone needs to let the crew in and see the attic at the end, but you do not need to stay all day. We send the finished photos either way.
Yes, as of October 2026. Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program offers as much as $1,250 for an attic upgrade on its standalone route, paid through contractors named on its list, and larger amounts on its assessment route. Its end date is currently scheduled for November 30, 2026. Our attic insulation rebate page explains both routes.
Most jobs here run $1,500 to $3,500, including the sealing. Townhouses sit at the low end and large detached homes at the high end. The attic insulation cost page lists ranges for each type of job.
Every page explains how the work is done and what it usually costs.

How it works and what it costs
R-60 attic insulation is our usual target for Barrhaven attics: a deep, even layer over a sealed ceiling.
How it works and what it costs
Attic insulation removal vacuums out wet, dirty or flattened material, leaving a bare floor that can be sealed and filled again from scratch.
How it works and what it costs
Attic air sealing plugs the gaps in the ceiling so warm house air stays downstairs, and it happens on every job before anything new goes on top.
How it works and what it costs
Attic ventilation moves outside air in at the soffits and out near the ridge, so the attic stays cold and dry in winter and less hot in summer.
How it works and what it costs
Room over garage insulation warms the bedroom or bonus room above an attached garage by sealing and insulating its floor, its short side walls and the slope overhead.
How it works and what it costs
Cathedral ceiling insulation fills the rafters above a sloped or vaulted ceiling, a closed space too tight for loose fill to be spread across.
How it works and what it costs
The attic insulation rebate from Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program covers a share of an attic upgrade, with the payment tied to the R-value the attic has before work begins.
How it works and what it costs
Attic insulation cost in Barrhaven depends on the attic's floor area, the depth you add, the sealing needed and whether old material comes out first.
