R-60 Attic Insulation
R-60 attic insulation is our usual target for Barrhaven attics: a deep, even layer over a sealed ceiling.
How it works and what it costs
Blown-in attic insulation spreads an even layer over the entire attic floor, around wires and trusses, while a clean existing layer stays in place.
It is the job we are asked for most. The loose fill rides a hose from our truck up into the attic, so it reaches the low corners at the eaves that batts and arms cannot. We use blown fiberglass or cellulose depending on the attic, and the quote says why.
Before any bag is opened, the attic floor gets sealed. Top plates, wire holes, the plumbing stack, fans and the hatch are closed so warm air stops rising through the ceiling. The new layer then rests on a tight floor instead of a leaky one.
This step adds a few hours to the job, and it is why the new layer performs the way the label says. The attic air sealing page lists every opening we close.
Either material gets to R-60 at the right depth. Blown fiberglass is light, shrugs off water and holds its height well. Cellulose is heavier and denser, so air has a harder time moving through it, and it slumps slightly after install, so we add extra to allow for that.
In most Barrhaven attics either one works. We recommend one based on the existing layer, the ceiling and the trusses, and the price for each is written on the quote when you want to compare.
The depth depends on what is already there and the R-value you want. Going from bare drywall to R-60 means about 16 to 22 inches of blown-in attic insulation, and the product's bag chart sets the exact figure. Over a few inches of old fill, the top-up is less.
Depth markers get stapled to the trusses ahead of blowing, so the finished height shows in the photos. The bag count on the quote matches that depth. The R-60 attic insulation page goes into the numbers.
In Ontario, a blown-in top-up over an existing layer tends to cost $1.40 to $2.60 per square foot. For a 1,000 square foot Barrhaven attic, expect roughly $1,400 to $2,600, with the sealing, baffles and hatch shown on their own lines.

These jobs are often quoted together, because the same visit and the same crew can handle them in one trip to the attic.

How it works and what it costs
Attic insulation removal vacuums out wet, dirty or flattened material, leaving a bare floor that can be sealed and filled again from scratch.
How it works and what it costs
Attic air sealing plugs the gaps in the ceiling so warm house air stays downstairs, and it happens on every job before anything new goes on top.
How it works and what it costs
Attic ventilation moves outside air in at the soffits and out near the ridge, so the attic stays cold and dry in winter and less hot in summer.
How it works and what it costs
Room over garage insulation warms the bedroom or bonus room above an attached garage by sealing and insulating its floor, its short side walls and the slope overhead.
How it works and what it costs
Cathedral ceiling insulation fills the rafters above a sloped or vaulted ceiling, a closed space too tight for loose fill to be spread across.
How it works and what it costs
The attic insulation rebate from Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program covers a share of an attic upgrade, with the payment tied to the R-value the attic has before work begins.
How it works and what it costs
Attic insulation cost in Barrhaven depends on the attic's floor area, the depth you add, the sealing needed and whether old material comes out first.
